Gang,
How many of you are interested in formation flying/training? Is there anything organized within the Lancair community to teach formation? I'm new to the group so excuse my ignorance.... :)
One of my many hats (just depends on the time of day which one I'm wearing!) is serving as the Western Regional Coordinator for the Red Star Pilots Association we fly all things ex-communist military like Yaks and L-39's and MiG's. We are heavily involved with FAST formation training and I would be happy to help coordinate something for the Lancair drivers if there is an interest. FAST training allows you to fly formation in waivered airspace....i.e. make passes at shows, etc...but we can tailor the program to the individuals.
The main consideration here is safety. Formation flying is very rewarding and fun, but it is not without risks... this training will give you a level of competence to mitigate the risks, have more fun with your flying buddies, and look really cool when you arrive at your next airshow in the overhead break! :)
So, two questions:
1) Is there anything currently organized to provide this training in the group? If the answer is yes, I'd be happy to help out.
2) If there isn't anything organized how many of you are interested in an organized clinic? And no, flight suits and helmets are not required! ;)
Cheers,
Barry
