Lancair IV's are a little more challenging to cool than the average homebuilt.
Nevertheless, the priciples are the same for all aircooled engines. Faced with
similar problems with my Varieze, I turned to NACA reports from the 30's and
40's. I described my experiences in two articles for the canard community. You
may find some of the information here is useful to you. A neighbour recently
installed a plenum system based on these articles, in a 200HP Lancair 360 and
reports very good cooling with only 12 sq. inch total intake surface area.
