Jack:
Thanks. The TIT limit is not related to the engine in any way. It is a
factor in whether or not the turbo has Inconel rotors or not. The standard
rotors are limited to 1650dF and the Inconel rotors have a 1750dF limit.
These limits are set by the turbo manufacturer, not the engine manufacturer
but will no doubt be included in the engine manual. I was unaware that that
particular engine was being shipped with Inconel rotored turbos. That's
good to know. Thanks.
There are no EGT limits.
Back to the TIT limits. The purpose of a temp limit is not to allow a
situation where the max rotor speed and temperature could combine to result
in enough rotor creep so that it touches the inside of the case. That would
result in failure. Soooo, if the rotor is not turning at max rpm and the
temp is under max, there is not problem. The rotor only turns at max above
the critical altitude for the wastegate to be fully actuated. You can
control the temp with the mixture.
I hope that helps clear any confusion about why we have TIT limits and no
EGT limits.

You might want to look at the Continental engine manual for the TSIO 550
engine as I believe you might find the manufacturers EGT limits are 1750 dF
and 1800 for 30 seconds.
