That's the good news. The bad news is that it costs about as much. San Antonio Foam Fabricators (Fran Graham, 800-327-7125) carries a product called ConforFoam, which is used a lot in things like wheelchair seats -- i.e., long-term use, no pressure points. I'll be trying it out; it comes in several density grades, standard sheets, or can be cut to custom sizes. A sheet of the highest density stuff 36"x80"x2" costs $316! For headliner backing, a company called Voltek (prodinfo@voltek.voltek.com) has several closed-cell polyolefin foams, two of which meet the flammability standards. They also come in various thicknesses, and are sold through distributors. The product info folks there were very quick to send me samples and a list of Texas suppliers. FYI: If you know anyone who wants a Lancair ES but doesn't want to build their own, I'm really having builder-withdrawal pangs now that mine is flying. I'd love to work something out to build another. The second time around would be even more fun, and look at all the support that's out there (Thanks, Marv! and others). Have 'em call me at 800-362-9597 or e-mail me back.
