Re:  Thank  God most of you never flew for the Airlines

Hmmm, flying for the airlines does not make one skilled at flying a Lancair--look at the percentage of LIV pilots who were ATP rated  who have dumped their planes.  The same can be said for several test pilots and commercial rated pilots having high hours.

Nor does flying for the airlines give one any better judgement--hmm, ran out of gas ten miles short of destination...

Flying into OSH is dangerous, period.  The sky is filled with once-a-year fliers, some of whom haven't done pattern work in years.  Most of these people don't have a clue.

I believe the more sophisticated and smart pilots land at Fond du Lac and take the bus.
The smartest pilots are those older, wiser guys that drive cars to OSH.  They recognise the issues involved and have decided that in this case, the highway is safer.

That being said, I, myself, have done all of the above--drive car, land Fond du Lac, and land OSH--several times for each choice.

And, that being said, landing at OSH with my newly-completed shiny plane was the most satisfying...even if it was not the safest.  But I did recognize the danger.
