2024 is a copper-magnesium alloy which doesn't weld very well.
6061 is a magnesium-silicon alloy which welds very nicely.
2024-T3: UTS=70; YS=50; USS=41; EL=20; ELON=18
2024-T4, -T351: UTS=68; YS=47;USS=41;EL=20; ELON=20
6061-T4: UTS=35; YS=21; USS=24; EL=14; ELON=22
6061-T6: UTS=45; YS=40; USS=30; EL=14; ELON=12
