   Yes, I removed the AN fittings, but only temporarily, to see if they
were interfering with removal of the shaft assembly. The  pipe threads
appeared to be machined into the cylinder body; but now that you mention
it, they must be machined into the end cap. So, the AN fitting must be
removed, then the end cap (with the machined pipe threads) will slide out
with the cylinder shaft? I won't be able to check and try that till this
evening, but does that sound correct?

[Bill... yep, that sounds like it.  Remove the AN fittings and then take it
