For Glen Bien:

I certainly dont claim to be anything close to being the expert in aircraft A/C but I did participate in considerable discussion in this arena along the way.

Greg Wroclawski once mentioned that the # for a Beech Baron was 14,000 BTU.   He mentioned that auto A/C systems shoot for about 100 cfm per 3000 BTU's of cooling and that the average mid-size car has about 15, 000 - 20,000 BTU's of capacity because people expect heat soaked cars to cool down quickly.

Another point to consider is the tremendous heat buildup at altitude from solor radiation thru the windows in summer.  He estimated about 3000 BTU / sq ft.  Looks like some type of screening, at least on the rear windows, might be called for.

In my case, I estimated that the L-IV interior was about the same as a very small car, so I mixed and matched components from the after market car and hot rod mfgrs.  (with the one exception of the Teledyne compresser bracket that hangs on the engine)

Hope this helps, Regards - Bill Hogarty
