Please, please practice slow flight, slow flight turns, slow flight with some flaps, slow flight with the gear out, fast slow flight, slow slow flight, turns, etc. There is no recovery from falling out of the sky at low altitude. Even if you fly the higher faster route, you will be surprised by the idiots flying slow, slow , slow. Try to follow a pair of twins on the verge of VMC, it will wake you up. Try to follow some ridiculous Cub at 80 Kts. Note that the speed is a MAX limit - you will encounter folks that believe that they should fly at their slowest possible speed - Practice, Practice, Practice. Follow a farmer's tractor on the highway below you, follow someone looking for a RFD address, do anything to practice slow flight.
