Yeah this can work fine but I'd just as soon use a premade aluminum roller.  The ribs are finer and I just don't want to mess wth the hassle.  They are available in a number of diameters and lengths.  3/8" dia is I believe the smallest and most handy.  They are available at Svendsens Marine (510) 521-8454 and are called "mat rollers".  TAP plastics also carries them I believe.  And if you use 'em, an acetone bath is a real must.
