Do it, but attach the tab to the top of the rudder bracket (a few washers are okay for further lift).  I have been flying this way since 1996 with no problems.  It is more important that the cable not be strained at the tab swag point and that continuous pressure not be applied at the  cable/fuselage entry point.  Remember that extreme rudder positions (full right) are only used during the takeoff run or (heaven forbid) a 20 Kt xwind landing requiring full left.

What the heck, you don't really use the rudder that much anyhow!

Remember, carry enough duct tape to protect yourself from any possibility.
