The is to inspect for oil leaks at the starter adapter. Fracture of the shaft results in failure of the scavenger pump to return the oil from the turbos and loss of engine oil with failure of the engine. TCM reports 7 failures of this part. I believe that 3 of those have been in Lancairs. Engines less than 250 hours are included in the bulletin. The 3 that I have heard of all occurred in less than 50 hours. I can inspect mine with a flashlight looking up through the right exhaust cowling space. =20 For detail go to: http://www.tcmlink.com/aviator/AVI-serviceBulletinFRAME.html Carl Cadwell N25CL IVP with 235 hours.
