The best place is on the bottom skin of the outer wing panels. Unless you
have already bonded the wing skins on (which I'msure you have because your
signature says 80%), then you are out of luck in that area. The next place
that I would look at is the baggage compartment floor. That is not an ideal
place because of the flap torque tube and motor unless you can get it at
least a foot or so aft of the torque tube.
I'm wondering if it is possible to install an antenna along the outer skin
of the aircraft. You could remove the skin from the top of the wing, dig
out the core, bond the antenna in, plumb the wiring out the wing tip rib and
down the tube, and repair the top skin surface. That is a lot of work, but
I believe that it could work as long as your closeout conforms to the
original wing design. Or even more of a radical thought is to use copper
tape, cover the antenna elements with a single bid, cut a hole for the
center tap and connector, then repair the hole. This all could work if you
have room in your aileron bellcrank area to plumb the cable. Let us know
what you decide.
The orientation should be horizontal.
