I am quite positive that the windscreen of the Piper Warrior has a
magnification effect. I hit a goose after rotation and that bugger
looked like an elephant coming at me! I couldn't put it back down
on the remaining runway and did a quick circuit. Found that the
prop had some paint scratches on the back side and the runway had
7 pieces of dead goose. yum yum. You can be sure that I do a goose
scan as I'm taxing/taking the active because they can be hard to
spot.
Another guy I know was flying a Commander and he hit a hawk about
2000AGL. Did some pretty good damage to his leading edge, just
outboard of his fuel tanks.
