My 2 cents.

There is a mix of metal in there

Yes there is.  My only concern was the main gear legs.  The factory black
stuff was so crummy I had a touch of rust everywhere that I had ever
slightly dinged them.  I had them blasted and Powder coated white.  I left
all else original and have no indications of corrosion after 3 years and 180
hrs.

> Is it worth it.
Yes.  My wife however considers it the cause of my back surgery.  I sprayed
and primed and sanded for entirely too long before I even glued on the upper
skin.  This allowed pretty easy painting in the end.  Still alot of work.

Also any ideas for color in the wheel wells.
Light good for inspections but shows dirt.
dark, hides dirt but hard to inspect.

All true.  Using this mindset, I painted mine with PPG concept Durethane
White.  I love it.  Yes they need a little cleaning regularly.  The
durethane is impervious to everything.  Other folks go dark.  Amazingly
enough there were several grime pits at Oshkosh last year.  I can't imagine
not being able to make a detailed inspection of such a crucial area on every
preflight.

The real discussion here is probably an absolute anti grime mindset.  Paint
color wouldn't matter if brake and hydraulic leaks are absolutely forbidden.
