On the galvanic scale carbon is very close to the noble end, while aluminum is very close to the active end. I would therefore expect to find aircraft incorporating both aluminum and carbon components, particularly when those components are electrically connected, with at least some evidence of corrosion on cadmium plated and/or aluminum parts. Given that carbon typically makes up a large mass compared with the mass of cadmium or aluminum parts I would further expect that corrosion be locally aggressive and confined to parts made of active materials. Any comments from owners with ACTUAL experience are welcome. With all due respect, speculative ramblings while interesting from the standpoint of discussion, don't really answer my question. Real data which would be most helpful includes: preventative measures taken prior to placing the aircraft in service calendar age of the aircraft hours on the aircraft specific corrosion areas corrective action taken evidence of subsequent reoccurrence typical environment (dry desert, seacoast, etc.) compromises to safety or serviceability Thanks, Ted Stanley IV kit being inventoried >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LML website: http://members.olsusa.com/mkaye/maillist.html LML Builders' Bookstore: http://www.buildersbooks.com/lancair Please remember that purchases from the Builders' Bookstore assist with the management of the LML.
