Can I use soft rivets (AN426A-3-6)? Why do I think I can do this? Every other place in the manual (so far) where it tells me to attach nutplates I am directed to use soft rivets. The kit supplied me with soft rivets in this exact size, but no hard rivets. (And no, they weren't mislabeled rivets that a several-year-old factory service bulletin warned us about.) But before I put 72 soft rivets into my flap hinges, I'd like to verify that I'm not doing something stupid. What do the rivets do, anyway? I thought their purpose was to only to keep the nutplates from spinning when the bolt is torqued, that axial loads in the bolt were taken by the bolt itself and transferred to the parent material by the nutplate's flat surface without loading up the rivets, and that shear loads were taken by the bolt and the bearing area of the hole while again not loading up the rivets.
