Finally, the most secure and appealing manner to secure the wire ends is available in kit form: Two- machined stainless steel threaded retainer buttons, two-hinge wires(5' each) secured to a 10/32 set screw, one-machined stainless steel chuckable installation/extraction tool and an allen wrench. All yours for $45.00 plus shipping and handling. An alternative kit is available without the hinge wire for $39.00 each. Note: The most secure method we have found to attach the set screw to the wire is silver solder for those of you that wish to drill the set screw and use your own hinge wires. Two methods of installing the retainer buttons: 1) external: drill an access hole for the barrel of the retainer button inline with the hinge wire, mate the button to the cowl with resin/flox mixture and secured with two BID of fiberglass cloth. 2) internal: drill a 1/8" hole inline with the hinge wire, grind the button face to match the contour of the inside of the application location and proceed as in number 1, above. The first method provides a 3/8" crowned shape on the cowl at the hinge line and the second method provides a 1/8" hole at the hinge line. I have been running with the first method on my Lancair IVP for over 250 hours without a hint of movement on the hinge wires. Very clean and secure! Pictures available.
