I was going to retrofit right side brake pedals but after I read about the
number of times the early Matco bakes experienced a lock up while taxing
and the damage these lock ups caused I decided to not fix it since it
wasn't broke. Later as I recall there was a discussion of an unexperience
pilot landing a Lancair after the left seat piot became incapacitated. The
consensus was land gear up and avoid an uncontrolled bounce. The lack of
brakes on the right side almost forces this decision so the temtation to
try a first wheels landing under emergency conditions is avoided. The
belly, prop, and flap trailing edges can be fixed a lot easier than cart
wheel damage.
