This is a lame argument for eschewing the superior performance of an electronic ignition system. You have a system to warn you of alternator failure, don't you? You sized your battery for 30 minutes (60 minutes?) of flying after shedding all but essential loads, didn't you? (You have done a power budget / electrical loads analysis, haven't you?) You notice the failure, flip over your 30 minute egg timer, and get the thing on the ground before the sand runs out.
This is not meant to be a snotty response (though it probably sounds like it) but rather a reminder to all of us with critical electrical systems to know how much time is left when the alternator fails.
