Date: Tue, 29 Jan 2002 15:16:20 -0500 Message-ID: Importance: Normal X-Mailing-List: lancair.list@olsusa.com Reply-To: lancair.list@olsusa.com <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<--->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> << Lancair Builders' Mail List >> <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<--->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >> Guys, I've installed prepreg webs to build up a dry D conduit on the leading edge of my IV-Ps wing. I did this by removing core and then floxing the pieces in place. While installing the webs, I also created a flox fillet that should lock the prepreg panels in place. Now the $500,000 question: Should I install a 1 or 2 BID layup from the lower skin, up the aft face of the web and onto the upper wing skin / joggle (only about 1/4" available to wrap glass on to)? I can come up with arguments for going both ways. NOT TO INSTALL: - No additional weight - The web isn't _necessarily_ structural (since it didn't have to be there in the first place) - Save a bit of work TO INSTALL: - All the other webs forming the fuel tanks are secured in with 2 BID - Since I am holding fuel with these thinks, the 2 BID would be one more insurance policy against a piece coming loose and causing a severe "fuel event" - I'm concerned that, because I have installed them that the webs WILL take on structural loading. If so, using 1/2 BID on their aft faces might be important.
