Marv,
It appears that an important bit of information was not posted on the forum
and it is allowing many to continue to erroneously think Continental cranks
are susceptible to breaking. I gave a Preliminary analysis backed by several
(experts) and we were all WRONG. Here's an updated post.
Hi All,
GREAT GOOD news!!
The crankshaft in DQ is NOT broken. The only internal damage we (D&S Cam
Corp and I) found on teardown was a chipped tooth on the magneto drive gear
and the magneto impulse couplings were broken on both mags.
Not having a recording (as in Vision Micro) tach I have no way of knowing
how high the overspeed.
We will magnaflux crankshaft/cam/gears etc etc and see if any unseen damage
exists. If OK ,recertify (hopefully).
Prop will be torn down Thursday. (???)
Prop gov is on way to overhaul shop.
