I am beginning to look at how to fit the canopy to my 360. While there are
obvious advantages to both the standard and the forward hinge canopy
systems, my question relates to the possibility of canopy jettison in
flight. Call me old fashioned, but I would like to have the option to
carry, and if necessary use, a parachute. I know it does not occur often,
but there have been a couple of instances where a parachute would have
prevented a fatality, and I can certainly think of circumstances when it
would be nice to have that choice.
The trouble is that neither canopy hinge mechanism allows for in flight
jettison. I seem to remember hearing that the factory modified a prototype
with a jettison mechanism at some stage. Does anyone have any knowledge or
experience of this, and if so how was it done?
