Just returned from the annual EAA overseas tour, this time to S. America, and had a most interesting visit to EAA Chapter 722 at Buenos Aires.  It is the only chapter in Argentina. Their national economy is in the basement so lots of innovative activites were evident in order to continue to build and fly airplanes.  The most remarkable was a wooden Lancair 235 under construction.  The builder said he couldn't afford the kit so decided to do his own.  I only saw the construction photo album as the project was at the builders home, but it looked absolutely beautiful.  He was using the old deHavilland narrow, wood strip technique which they pioneered in 1934 on their Comet racing plane (I fly the replica here in the states) and later on the famous Mosquito bomber of WWII.  The technique provides for the creation of beautiful compound curves, and the fuselage pictures of the Lancair were awesome.  It will have fabric covering over the wood.  They have a very large and active chapter, and were preparing for an open house to be started the next day.  In a subsequent e-mail I had from our English speaking host he said they had over 100 planes and 1200 folks in attendance.  All this on a grass strip but with a very large number of standardized hangars & facilities.  They even reprint their own very professional Spanish version of "Sport Aviation", called "Aviation Sport".  The cover looks just like the original and the contents are reprints from U.S. aviation news stories as well as local information.    Pat Halloran
