I talked to Dick Riechel about my elevator springs not being strong enough. He said to make sure that the springs were 7 inches long and .091 inches thick. He also said that there should be between 10.5 and 11 inches between the cotter pins with his stronger springs. All of the measurements on my 320 were correct except that the cotter pin to cotter pin distance was 12 inches. Riechel's system was installed by a mechanic. I don't know but will find out if the 10.5 to 11 inches were specified in the instructions. Rather that drilling a new cotter pin hole, I bought 1 inch worth of spacers and spread them around the springs. I have gained about 20 knots of trimmed speed by compressing the springs 1 inch. I will decide about drilling a new hole next spring. It was to late last night but I still have to do final adjustments to the placing of the center of the springs. I also have some jerking when I move the elevator back and forth. I will see if Silicon spray at the center of the springs will correct this problem. -- Lorn H.
