The 1-3/4 is from the fuselage to the inside of the scoop. Measuring from
the NACA which is recessed would be about another 1-3/4 for a total of
3-1/2". Maybe I didn't explain that very well.
OK, then. So you're NACA is the same size as mine. I think Greg Richter may
have gone the direction you're proposing - add more scoops and it'll cool. I
think he had a top speed problem (now solved with a turbine :). Do you have
any kind of internal expansion area as described by Terry? I'd suggest that
this would be the place to start... unless you're prepared to loose all the
races we have later :)
