At least this failure mode was fairly benign. If another one fails I'm outta here! I gave up on the Mazda turbo when I saw how scary the inside of a used one looked. At that point, I ordered a custom turbo from Turbonetics, with a stainless turbine housing. After a couple months, with no hope of ever getting it from Turbonetics, I gave up on the turbo altogether. For the record, I'm not completely anti-turbo, but in my situation, I don't "need" the power, and I can't tolerate the weight on the nose, or the space under the cowl.
