I’m having great fun trying to program my EC2. But I would love some input if anyone has any ideas. The situation so far is thus:
It runs really great over about 18”MAP. I had it up to 23 “ today and I almost couldn’t keep the tail down. I am running the stock turbo II. I’m not really sure what the pressure was up stream of the throttle body but I think it was more than ambient as one of my manifold temp sensors (held in place only by RTV) got popped out of its hole. Manifold temp at the time was about 32C.
I’m not sure what RPM I am seeing because I haven’t been able to get the tach working yet (hey Tracy – do you think the signal output to one of the LS1 coils could be run in parallel to the tach?)
Other parameters include (so far) max coolant temp 38C and oil 60C but that was after only about 15 min. at 19”MAP. I definitely need a bigger coolant reservoir. I hold just under to quarts now and it is still overflowing without even getting very hot.
The turbo does get very hot and makes some smoke (not a lot) out the tail pipe on shut down. I am wondering if maybe the oil seal is leaking. How much smoke on shut down is normal? Snip
Are you running full engine oil pressure (70 psi+) to the turbo. I seem to remember someone else over powering the Turbo oil seal. The problem was solved with a restrictor in the Turbo oil line to reduce the pressure
to about 40 psi. This was using a TO4 Turbo. If you are using the stock Mazda Turbo I do not know if this info holds true. I do not know if Mazda
put a restrictor in their oil feed line. If you are using the stock feed
line check it out. If using a feed line you supplied it will need restricted
if the stock line was. On the other hand the oil seal may just be worn. IMHO
