They get a licence and discover there is nowhere to go except around the circuit.  Hence the problem with high performance machines, you get where ever you want to go fast, and then sit waiting for transport for longer than the flight---- why did I just not drive??? This also explains the current trend back to  'recreational" aircraft where you just do an hour at a slow pace for just the thrill of flying.  Trend is back to 100 MPH machines that have stol performance where paddock landings are easy, which expands the scope for flight. Travel to neighbours  for  tea and bikkies.  You have to have a need to get in at least once every 2 weeks, or you end up not flying at all --- Generate that need somehow. Neil.
