Nothing wrong with aluminum; just can't
have flat surfaces.

Okay, I'll skip the aluminum, but....
Fiberglass....Carbon fiber......could be an alternative over
plywood. As a composite I can form a stronger cigar box at a
fraction of the weight.

Tracy's is on the intake/exhaust
side of the engine; the intake tubes are a straight shot from
bellmouth to engine block. Everyone seems to go for the PL
inspired 19" length tubes (or even longer, to find a spot on
the plugs side of the engine for the plenum. I wonder if
that's part of the reason (along with the drag of 'snake-y'
tubes) that some aren't getting the HP they hoped for.
Note: If you build a 'cigar box' style plenum (air box) with
flat sides, don't make my mistake. Tracy's box is made of
plywood for a reason; I got creative & made mine using
aluminum and Tracy pointed out that the pressure pulses will
quickly shred it. Rebuilding my plenum is on my 'to do' list.
I've got some 6" aluminum tubing that I may use, but the
simplest thing is to just build it with plywood.

Something to remember an airbox like that must
be on the "cold side" of the engine. Don't put it over the
exhaust.
