I didn't ready your final line until after I had read the article, Pat; but, may assessment was exactly the same.  On a positive note, he does acknowledge his ignorance and doesn't spout sour grapes from problems of his own making.  It seems to be a very honest article.  If you don't know how to build an engine, or an airplane, or a wiring harness, then embarking on that journey is going to lead to a lot of learning...and quite possibly some expensive damaged parts.
