Obviously the opposite is true, so = air fuel mixture is never going to cross over the spark plug hole into = the exhaust chamber. Exhaust gases crossing over into the intake = chamber probably isn=E2=80=99t helpful, but restricting the size the = spark plug hole would be more detrimental to proper ignition, so his = linear plug hole doesn=E2=80=99t solve anything. #2 - there is no torque being generated at top dead center so the = pressure across the rotor face argument is misguided. Changing position = of the compression pocket would not have the effect he is describing. = Mazda tested offset compression pockets and it did not help anything. Its actually a lot more exciting to read the SAE papers about the = Renesis improvements which actually were quite helpful in reducing = emissions and improving efficiency. They virtually eliminated cross = talk between exhaust and intake ports. Or talk about the 16X engine - the version they are still playing around = with in Japan. It has higher displacement (1.6 liter versus 1.3 liter = 13B) with a narrower rotor width, larger rotor diameter and larger = eccentric offset. These changes cause an improvement in thermal = efficiency (better surface to volume ratio than the 13B) and better low = end torque properties. They have had great success with this engine in = their direct injection hydrogen testing - air is drawn into the intake = chamber and after the apex closes off the chamber, the required fuel is = squirted directly into the chamber. I am disappointed in the news over the last year or so that the rumored = new Rx-7 has been shelved for now.
