It shouldn=E2=80=99t be restrictive.&nb= sp; I am using the stock Renesis exhaust manifold which is cut off at the level of= just prior to the flywheel.  The manifold is 3 inches in diameter at th= at point.  I welded a 3 inch stainless pipe there which does a 180 bend wi= th a radius of probably 4 inches.  It then goes into a 3 inch in/out DNA muffler, then 3 inch ss exhaust the rest of the way out.  My EGTs have always been this high, even when I didn=E2=80=99t have a muffler in the same= setup.  I have considered that the probes or the EM-2 may be incorrect,= but I think that there is not much calibration required for a K type thermocouple.  I think the probes are just closer to the engine than mo= st.

Bill,

How restrictive is your exhaust?  I ask because I experienced a= 200 degree increase in the EGTs on my 3-rotor when I tried a tangential styl= e muffler.  I hadn,t made the connection until Lynn Hanover posted a mess= age about how sensitive the rotary is to exhaust back pressure.  That,s whe= n I figured out what caused the increased EGTs, increased back pressure.   I= reinstalled the old exhaust and the EGTs mysteriously dropped back into the normal range.  Could this be the source of your high EGTs?

&n= bsp;           I have a P ported renesis and am seeing EGT up to 1850.  Having talked with various people with far more knowledge than myself, who suggest it may b= e that the spark should be advanced up to around 30 BTDC. to reduce the EGT. I actually have the RD1-C PSRU. (My Ba= d.) Tracy started s= elling these about 6-7 years ago for use with the Renesis.

The prop turns clockwise from the pilo= t's seat view.

I normally see EGT's in the high 1750 = F. during full power takeoff and early climb. It will go above 1800 F. if the mixture is real close to best power. I have my EM-2 set to warn me if the EG= Ts go above 1800.
