UPDATE... Only good to October 15
(I still think this was outstanding of them to do!)

Just spreading the word...

Updated: $1 Avgas Experiment to End on October 15th

Overwhelming response met goals three weeks ahead of schedule, but supply can’t meet demand

In preparing for this experiment, we planned for traffic averaging eight times normal, the actual response has been four times higher than that— over 30 times our normal volume. By the end of the first week, we’d reached our data collection goal for the entire month. The response has been so overwhelming, however, that simply meeting the demand for fuel has become unmanageable. We have had three trucks running full-time and wait times are still approaching two hours. Skyport usually pumps about 4,000 gallons of 100LL in a month. It’s projected that by October 15 we will have pumped over 90,000 gallons. Unfortunately, continuing at that rate for the entire month is physically and economically unviable, but we are committed to handling the demand through AOPA Summit in Fort Worth, and to the halfway point of the month.

We regret having to make any changes to the plan, but our goal was both data collection and stirring an infusion of activity in the GA community. On both those counts, we’ve already succeeded several times over even our boldest projections.

Kelly,

The psru damper project was put on hold when the BMA EFIS died.  PL is re-thinking the design at this time and has asked me to hold off on it for a while.

Bill,

No, I didn't really feel like it was worth the extra $1k for the touch screen.  But I did opt for the engine monitor board, gps, and ADS-B.  While the engine monitor provides redundancy, I really like the aural warnings it provides.  So, I don't have to fly with one eye on the EM-2 and one looking for traffic.  My purchasing logic was to go with the "big screen" so that I wouldn't need a second screen.  So far, it appears this will work out just fine.  I'll be using ForeFlight on a iPad for moving map, flight planning, weather, etc.  It would have been helpful to have the extra serial ports a second screen would provide as the AF-5800 is limited to four.  Five serial ports would have been optimum, but a work-around was done to make this work.  I hope to fly it for the first time this weekend.

I didn't weigh the two units, but I would guess the AFS is about 5# lighter than the BMA.  AFS gave a 30% rebate on the old BMA unit, and I didn't even have to ask.  Great customer service too!  I highly recommend AFS.  If interested, call and ask for Trisha Blank.
