Tom,
John Violette from Aerocomposites gave a very
impressive presentation to our local EAA chapter last night on propeller
technology. He is a very knowledgeable guy who spent a number of years at
Hamilton Standard and Pratt & Whitney before opening his own shop. Their
product line is primarily constant speed but they have extensive propeller
experience in non-traditional areas (the recent Sikorsky
X2 speed record was made possible by the tail prop assembly, an
Aerocomposites design). The Aerocomposites engineering team seems fully capable
of thinking outside the box for unusual projects, and John seemed very
approachable when we had a chance to talk to him after his presentation. It
might be worth your while to have a chat with him and explain what you have in
mind. (Full disclosure: I’m not in the propeller business or connected
with Aerocomposites in any way…other than as a potential customer).
