Subject: Aircraft Insurance
From time to time the subject of insurance comes up regarding rotary
powered
aircraft. I happen to run across AMEVCO's new website and found this in
their FAQ list.
Q: Can I get coverage for aircraft damage on my homebuilt if I equip it
with
an automobile engine?
A: Yes. Avemco offers coverage for several of the popular FWF converted
automobile engine packages, including First Flight coverage for a newly
completed aircraft. Aircraft equipped with other automobile engines may be
eligible for coverage once the engine has accumulated 100 flight hours in
the aircraft.
This is interesting seeing as how AMEVCO recently disolved their
relationship with the EAA regarding insurance of Homebuilts and their has
been remours that they would not insure auto engine conversions. I have
my
insurance with AMEVCO and when I contacted them earlier this year
regarding
the status of my insurance since I have an auto engine. They responsed
that
because I was a current customer they would continue the policy.
