It is not necessary to remove the water pump housing to verify the therm= ostat installation.  It is accessable by removing just the cover over = the thermostat.  The photo shows the water pump housing with the cover= removed and also shows the stock bypass thermostat and a non bypass thermostat.  The drawing shows changes that can be d= one to convert to a non bypass thermostat or the non byypass thermostat can= then be simply left out.
