Well ..... as luck would have it I just replaced my in-tank pump in my GMC
Safari this past weekend. I was thinking about I was doing it.
The pump I bought was made by Bosch (pass on the Airtex) and is held I
place with a locking ring and sealed via an O-ring. What struck me about it was
the connect points. The housing and connect points are all plastic. The fuel
lines lock in place with a plastic clip.
After dropping the tank to replace the pump (fun, fun, fun) I got to
thinking that maybe this would not be the way I would want to design my fuel
system in my plane. A high quality fuel pump connected properly to the fuel
source should be both dependable and maintainable.
I’m building a canard and plan on putting a 2-3 gal sump tank behind the
rear seat.
