Thanks Kelly! Starting to make more sense! Btw, I think I'm going to locate a qualified scanning service in your area. This will save the shipping cost all the way up here and back [the total cost should be a 'wash'] and will get your parts back to you faster than if they got sent all the way up here for a few days and then sent all the way back [plus avoiding customs and all those hassles too]. I'll cover all the cost and will have CAD models from the data fairly quickly after that.

I just gotta find the right 'shop' to send them to :)

Thanks again!

Subject: [FlyRotary] FlyRotary] Re: Mistral 'Like' Intake

Jarrett,

Had some relief from my day job Thursday afternoon and was able to spend a precious few
hours at my hangar..............Bolted my spare Lycoming "Dyna-focal" mount ring to the "Mistral"
"Backplate" and proceeded to do some serious manual measurements to see if the "Renesis"
water-pump housing/pump cartridge can be integrated onto the "Mistral" "Backplate"............

I have identified 4 problems at this time.......... None that cannot be easily fixed............

(1) First as I thought the left most  water-pump housing /stud (looking forward from cockpit) has
a slight interference with the top left mount retainer cup........This retainer can be relieved slightly
and a small re-enforcing patch welded without any loss of structural integrity.............

(2) The "Lycoming" mount ring I have (obtained from "Aircraft Spruce" prewelded) will have to
have the top tubing cross-member removed and replaced as it needs a higher "Bow" in the
tube and placed at a different angle to clear the pump housing and revised inlet/outlet for
coolant........It might be better to buy the mount ring as an unwelded kit from A/C Spruce....

(3) The coolant inlet and outlet of the stock "Renesis" pump housing has to be repositioned
when it is "Married" to the "Mistral" back-plate because it is aimed directly at the top left
mount retainer..........Will leave that "Magic" to you Jarrett...............<:)

(4) There will need to be 1 extra stud hole drilled from the married "Renesis" pump housing
through the re-engineered "Mistral" hsg that mates up with a threaded boss in the 93-99
     13BREW , Cosmo 13B & 20B and Renesis front side hsg................This boss does not
exist on the 86-91 13B which the "Mistral" back-plate was designed for...........

These are the major things I have identified so far and I am sure there will be others...... I still
do not know what exactly to do about the removable front cover of the "Mistral" hsg........Whether
to try and retain a smaller cover by eliminating the auxiliary drive portion of the cover or just to do
a simplified  copy (easier to cast compared to the pressure cast "Renesis" hsg) of the center
part of the "Renesis" hsg to try and retain the EFI/IGN sensor mount..........

Enough for now...........This will give you some info to mull over.................I will try to get a few
photos to illustrate some of what is above.............
.
Best Regards,
