Hmmmm, not tuning things on can be an issue. Uh, don't= ask me how I know. We expect steady reports. There was a slow oil leak that was causing me some heartache. I don't want to spew oil everywhere once the engine does start (notice the optimism there.), so I tore it down and put it back together with a little more ultra-grey. The work went suprisingly well. I came apart and went back together within an hour or so. I went out this morning and cleaned up the workshop for a while. It is cold and drizzly outside, so I wasn't going for a jog. Instead, I pulled the practice propeller off the engine and set up a rig to balance it. I had to take some wood off one side to get a decent balance, and the airfoils (and I'm being generous with myself using that term) are not where close to being the same. No matter, I'll be doing the real thing with the CNC mill I built for the job. As long as this one was balanced, it would provide a modicum of load and not shake the engine to death. I had the battery charge up. Put the charger on it last night. I looked around. I looked around hard. I didn't have any excuses left. This thing has been an oversized paperweight for WAY to long. Time to get some noise from it. I found a small pump spray bottle. Holds about 2oz, and I filled it 1/4th way up with gasoline. Removed the air filter, and I set the throttle to just open an crack and wired it into place. Sprayed some fuel down the throttle body's throat and close the starter contact. Wrrr! Wrrr! Wrrr! Nothin'. Wait a few seconds and try it again. Wrrr! Wrrr! Wrrr! Nothin'. Pulled the spark plug and laid it on the block. Wrrr! Wrrr! Wrrr! Nothin'. Not even a spark. Turn the ignition ON! Wrrr! Clack! Wrrr! Clack! Wrrr! Clack! Nice white spark. Put the spark plug back in. Spray more gas down the throttle. Wrrr! Wrrr! Wrrr! Nothin'. Got the wife together and we headed down to the Advanced Auto. Came home four plugs heavier and $35 lighter. The plugs I had been trying to use came with the engine. Now I could see why they weren't working, with the worn down nub that was the excuse for an electrode. Nice shiny new plugs slid right in. Spray more gas. Wrrr! Wrrr! Wrrr! Nothin'. Now I'm tired of this. Grabbed the starting fluid off the shelf. I know I'm not supposed to use starting fluid, Lynn, but just a short little squirt. Spray more gas. Wrrr! Wrrr! And just a quick squirt from the can. Wrrr! Blappp! Blapp! Blap! Oh, HALLELUJAH!! IT'S ALIVE! It's not "I'm running a marathon" alive. More like "Cough! Cough! The cancer hasn't killed me yet!" alive. But I'll take what I can get. I'm calling it a good day. The next step is to put gas in the take, verify the pumps and set the pressure regulator, and then get the injectors to spraying. Maybe then I can consider the marathon. -- Homepage: http://www.flyrotary.com/ Archive and UnSub: http://mail.lancaironline.net:81/lists/flyrotary/List.= html=
