Al,

I'd love to have a good tangential solution.  Mistral had developed one before they declared bankruptcy.  But, their engineer told me that they were loosing at least 5 HP with it.  So, if I am ignorant, I am happy to be corrected.

I presume that you have shared your design before?  Can I find in in the archives?  I am not a welder, so I have to hire any welding that needs to be done, so the cost of an Inconel device will be quite pricy, I presume.

Burns Stainless wrote back to me and wants me to send the failed muffler to them for analyses.  Should be interesting.

Best Regards,

Steve Thomas

This doesn’t seem right – at 50% power my 20B will run 9-10 gph leaned.

The tangential style mufflers are too power-robbing
My 20B got 265 hp at 6300 rpm on the dyno with the tangential muffler and secondary resonator. With 9.0 : 1 rotors and normally aspirated that’s not all bad.
But perhaps more importantly I now have 213 hour on the inconel tangential and 321 SS secondary; and they are still in good condition. And it is reasonably quiet.
