John, years ago, in California, I found out that all sorts of auto repair f=
acilities used ether to help start diesel engines during the winter. It tur=
ned out, that this practice created such a high pressure in the cylinder, t=
hat the head bolts would stretch. To make matters worse, these outfits woul=
d reuse the same bolts, instead of replacing them as is mandatory for any d=
iesel head bolt after it is used and torqued down the first time,=A0after c=
laiming that a head gasket needed replacement.

on our large diesel tractor with the air filter out while my son was cranki=
ng it, a fireball the size of a two bushel basket came out and wearing only=
 a T-shirt, it removed all the hair from my arm, I never knew a diesel to b=
