Joe, I've used the hole/clamp EGT probes for the past 10 years with no problem.   If I were a welder I think I would have gone with the bung, but the hole type has worked fine for me.   I did have to replace the probes at about the 7 year point.

What type of EGT probes is everyone using?  Weld in bung with threads or
hole with a clamp?  Which one is better for our applications?  Thanks for
