Subject: [FlyRotary] Flight Test
Here is some test data on my 13B Tailwind.
Marcotte Redrive, ration 25 x 51.
1st hour
engine rpm 5600 max
prop is Fred Felix 67 x 70, bi-cambered
water temp 190
oil temp
192
fuel press
42
ex temp 1600
MAP 28.5
OAT
76
air speed indicated 163
2nd hour
engine rpm
5800 At .7 hr into flight the engine
was picking up rpm so I throttled back 100 rpm's and tuned the A/F
water temp
185 mixture and the engine picked
rpm to 5800 rpm again. The engine must be breaking in and it
was
oil
tem
170 running real nice, VVI was
indicating climb of 200 feet per minute. At this point the Marcotte
Redrive
fuel press
42 started to vibrate so I throttled
back to 2000rpm on the engine, by this time I could smell 80w and
ex temp
1600 smoke. I did a 360 turn
and I'm flying in the only cloud for 100 miles. It doesn't give you a
fuzzy
warm feeling going 190 mph and having a fire at 4000 feet AGL. My
landing was less than stellar
MAP
27 so will have to repair the plane
next winter. I should have been reading between the lines in the
OAT 60
Contact Magazine and replaced the redrive before flight, when it failed the
front seal fell out and the
air speed indicated
190 80W followed.
Thanks to all you folks for you assistance in
getting the engine running real nice. To bad the redrive was
garbage.
JohnD....I was really happy I didn't get
injured
