I used the “connection 1” on the pump as an air bleed from the top of the #3 rotor housing on my 20B, which was the turbo coolant outlet.  Don’t know if yours has such an outlet, but it seems to me the pump connection to the block leaves the possibility for some air trapped at the top of the rotor housings.
