I hope the 16X is better.  Can't understand why Mazda would make such a shitty impeller for what appears to be a well thought out , lightened water pump.

My point is that ALL of our use could be considered a racing application. I don't subscribe to the idea that our "car" engines can't handle it, but our use is one anybody would call extreme! I do NOT like the renesis pump for our use.

Bill,
That's a good argument for a better impeller, but I think Mark is concerned that the Renesis impeller might be marginal in our application, logic would indicate that although it's not optimum, it will do the job - racing aside.
Having said that Mark I would be interested in your flow testing results.

Here is the thing to think about. A friend of mine who races rotary cars asked about the need for a better water pump. I asked him how long his longest straight is. "About 3/4 of a mile" he said. Well if you are running your airplane in a race the straight away might be 500 miles long! You would be hard pressed to find a circumstance where you had too much water flow.

As Tracy has said, "Better is the enemy of good enough".  So, the question is, is the stock Renesis water pump "good enough" to do the job we're asking it to do?

Is your Renesis WP driven off the back side of the belt?  The aftermarket pulleys I bought have grooves, indicating that it is driven off the grooved sided of the belt.  I'll have to look tomorrow when I'm out at the hangar.

Keep in mind that I'm comparing it to a 20B water pump, not a 13B water pump.  The 20B pump (housing & cartridge, no pulley) weighs 11.8 lbs.  The Renesis pump & housing after being cut off the front cover is 4.5 lbs.  So, I potentially can save over 7 lbs.  The big question is if the Renesis WP flow is enough water to cool the 20B.  

At present, I'm still gathering parts for the conversion, so I'm currently running the stock 20B pump. 

Any idea what the Meziere pump weighs?  You'll need to add the weight of brackets too.  The Renesis pump will fit onto the front cover same as the stock pump... well, with a few minor mods.
