The Renesis water pump is driven by the
grooved side of the belt and rotates in the same direction as the engine and
alternator. I don’t know if that is reverse of the earlier 13bs are
not as I don’t have one, but I doubt it.
The only thing that runs on the back side
of a belt on the Renesis is the idler pulley for the AC compressor. This is
a separate belt and does not have anything to do with the belt for the water
pump and alternator. The water pump/alternator belt has no idler pulley, tension
on it is adjusted by the alternator.

alternative water pump
George,
Actually the renisis pump is NOT better. It is cheaper to make. The thing to
remember is tha it's also reverse rotation. It is driven by the back side of
the micro groove belt. The Maziere pump is nice with a machined impeller. They
claim 95 gpm at 7000 rpm.

Re: alternative water pump
I believe the Renesis is a much improved version of the 13B
pump, but can't remember the reasons. I assume it is partly because of the
impeller and partly because of the tolerances between the impellor and the pump
housing ( being a close tolerance).
Do you have any info on the impellor/ tolerances etc.
Kelly,
Keep in mind that I'm comparing it to a 20B water pump, not a 13B water
pump. The 20B pump (housing & cartridge, no pulley) weighs 11.8 lbs.
The Renesis pump & housing after being cut off the front cover is 4.5
lbs. So, I potentially can save over 7 lbs. The big question is if
the Renesis WP flow is enough water to cool the 20B.
At present, I'm still gathering parts for the conversion, so I'm
currently running the stock 20B pump.
Any idea what the Meziere pump weighs? You'll need to add the
weight of brackets too. The Renesis pump will fit onto the front cover
same as the stock pump... well, with a few minor mods.

Beautiful pump but did you see a few posts back that
