There are some rarely used programming functions on some versions that use the cold start switch. It is also used for the not yet released closed loop mode that uses the O2 sensor for feedback. (Please don't ask when this will be done) The cold start used to be the only way to 'choke' the engine for starting. The primer function has more or less taken over that function.
