Scott, can’t be certain about your year model, but some of the older models water pump housing required that you install a small thin gasket/washer around one of the long bolts that the water pump gasket did not surround.
Apparently if you did not install this washer, the pressure on the housing from tightening the nut on that bolt would cause the housing to warp slightly and result in leaks.
Unfortunately I can’t remember exactly which bolt it was – except it was one of the studs that stayed in the block when you remove the pump and the standard water pump gasket did not go around – presumably if you are not using a gasket (I use silicon sealant) it shouldn’t matter.
That’s all I can think of for you to check.

I started filling the engine with coolant and as soon as the level reached bolt #3 it started to weep. Pulling the pump off the housing gave no indication of why the leakage. Per the haynes manual the bolts were tightened in the specified sequence and to 20 ft lbs. I did tighten to 25ft lbs, but it still continued to leak. Any guidance on how much torque the threads on aluminum pump housing can take?
The drip rate is felt considerable as there was no pressure( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ImqWkP8sDw ) other than 1/4" of standing fluid.
Any thoughts? I am getting a new gasket and will try again of course.
