Great; Mike. Sounds like things
are proceeding well.
I have the stage point set at about 16.5”,
and it is completely seamless. That is helped by the auto-tune feature in the EM2,
but I did have it pretty well nailed before I had the auto-tune – so it
is possible. I do find that above the stage point it gets richer if I
disable the secondary, so I guess at some point I need to adjust mode 6 and do
some retuning.
Throttled back to 5000 RPM and
just flew racetracks over the airport for an hour. My flight test area is very
restrictive. I've got a huge piece of the desert to the east but have to cross
a 3500' mountain and 30 - 40 miles of rugged terrain to get there. Not until I
have a few more hours on it in flight and have 100% confidence. I have the
Mexican border 2 miles south, Class B 2 miles north and the Pacific Ocean 5
miles west. So racetracks over the airport are going to be the norm for a few
hours.
Yeah; Brown field was within my test
area, but I only went there once – too restrictive, and bad terrain. I
had a similar situation doing flight testing out of Ramona. It didn’t
take me long to figure out that climbing out to the north there is a flat spot
with an abandoned strip about 7 miles out; then I could head ENE over bad
terrain about 10 miles over Warner Springs glider port; then E over the highest
terrain and get out over the dessert. Keeping a climb going until over
the highest terrain it was only a few minutes that I wasn’t within
gliding distance of some place I could put down if I had to. Maybe you
can find a reasonable route. Borrego Springs is a good place to go for T
& G’s, and practice emergency landings – not much traffic out
there. Is that within your test area?
All the best,
Al
